Luxury Hotels in Fez: What You Need to Know Before Booking

In Fez, the choice of hotel where you’ll stay depends mainly on the kind of experience you’re looking for. In the medina, you’ll find mostly riads and restored palaces, located right next to the historic sites, but they can sometimes be harder to access with luggage. The New City and the outskirts of Fez el-Bali offer more contemporary accommodations, often featuring a pool, a spa, and parking. To make the right choice, ask yourself whether you prioritize charm, proximity to attractions, or ease of access.

1. Hotel Riad Dar Lys (5 stars)

Hotel Riad Dar Lys - room

Our review

Nestled in the heart of the medina, the Riad Dar Lys Hotel is, in our opinion, one of the best places to stay in Fez. Our experience there was outstanding in every way. This architectural gem elegantly blends Moroccan tradition with contemporary touches in a particularly refined setting. We were impressed by the magnificent carved wooden ceilings that adorn the riad’s various spaces. From the moment you arrive, the welcome—with mint tea and freshly squeezed orange juice—sets the tone. Our room charmed us with the attention to every detail: modern furniture, intricately carved wooden wardrobes, hand-embroidered pillowcases, and works of art all come together in perfect harmony. We also really enjoyed the tadelakt bathroom, as well as the rooftop terrace, which is perfect for taking in the view and enjoying the pool.

2. Palais Faraj Suites & Spa Hotel (5 stars)

Hotel Palais Faraj Suites & Spa - interior view

Our review

The Palais Faraj Suites & Spa, a tastefully renovated traditional house, is one of our favorite spots in Fez. We were captivated by this 19th-century palace, which preserves the key architectural elements of a traditional riad while offering modern comforts. You’ll find that the Art Deco decor blends perfectly with the traditional “zellige” mosaics and the ornate ceilings featuring star-shaped moldings. As for the service, the staff is incredibly attentive, and the warm welcome includes Moroccan tea and pastries served in the stunning central patio. Imagine enjoying breakfast on the panoramic terrace, lulled by soft Arab-Andalucian music! The view from there is spectacular, taking in the city, the surrounding hills, and the Borj Sud Fort Tower. It promises a serene and timeless stay, doesn’t it?

3. Riad Relais & Châteaux Hotel in Fez (5 stars)

Hôtel Riad Relais et Châteaux Fès - interior lounge

Our review

Among the best places to stay in the old medina, this Relais & Châteaux hotel particularly caught our attention. The hotel elegantly blends Arab-Andalusian architecture with the Moroccan art of living. We were captivated by this palace, a beautiful example of Hispano-Moorish architecture organized around four patios.

Take the time to admire the carved doors, zellige tiles, stucco arcades, and marble basins that make up this exquisite setting. In the Andalusian patio, the ceiling moldings and the illuminated fountain sometimes provide a backdrop to the notes of the oud played by musicians.

We also had dinner at Restaurant Gayza, the riad’s fine-dining restaurant. There, Chef Lalla Abida serves Moroccan cuisine based on culinary expertise passed down from mother to daughter for several generations. Dishes can be paired with a selection of Moroccan and French wines, all enjoyed in an atmosphere set to the rhythm of Arab-Andalusian music. This restaurant is, in fact, one of our top picks for dining here.

Fes Heritage Boutique Hotel - façade and entrance

Our review

For 5-star service in an intimate setting other than a riad, choose the Fes Heritage Boutique Hotel. Its imposing facade overlooking the square and the Batha Fountain is truly impressive! In our opinion, this high-end hotel elegantly blends modernity with Moroccan craftsmanship in a vibrant decor that characterizes both the common areas and the guest rooms. We appreciated the authentic details that adorn the hotel, such as traditional mosaics, carved wooden doors, and hand-crafted copper lamps. In an atmosphere that’s both luxurious and warm, you’ll enjoy comfort and modern amenities, all just a short walk from the city’s main attractions. It’s an ideal base for exploring the wonders of Fez. The icing on the cake: relax in the pool located in the hotel’s inner courtyard after a day of exploring the nearby medina!

5. Jnan Palace Marriott Hotel (5-star)

Jnan Palace Marriott Hotel - lobby

Our review

In the New City, the Fès Marriott Hotel Jnan Palace is one of the city’s most historic landmarks. As soon as we entered the lobby, we were struck by the elegance of the space, with its grand crystal chandeliers, intricately carved wooden ceilings, and refined moldings. We stayed in a spacious and comfortable garden-level suite, decorated in a simple, contemporary style featuring shades of beige and brown. The two-level layout includes a bedroom on the lower level and a living room on the upper level, each with its own bathroom. However, we found the bedroom a bit dark and the stairs not always very convenient.

The hotel also offers a wide range of recreational facilities: a large outdoor pool, a fitness center with free access, and soccer and tennis courts. Families will especially enjoy the large garden, the play areas, and the pool. Childcare services are also available for an additional fee.
