Is it hard to find parking in Casablanca?
Yes and no. Casablanca isn’t a museum city with narrow, closed-off streets like Fes or Marrakech: it’s an economic hub where cars rule the road. The challenge, therefore, isn’t a ban on driving, but the congestion in the city center. We’ve found that downtown parking lots are full on weekdays, especially during business hours from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Fortunately, in recent years the city has built large, modern underground parking garages that are a game-changer. We recommend heading straight to these facilities rather than circling the streets. With a little planning ahead, you’ll be able to park without any major difficulty.
Parking in Casablanca: Summary
Careful street parking
On-street parking is regulated by blue zones equipped with parking meters, managed by the local company Casa Baïa. The official rate is 2 DH per hour. In case of non-payment or exceeding the time limit, the municipal police issue electronic tickets or tow the vehicle immediately for obstructing traffic. But the real local peculiarity is the car attendants in yellow vests, who are everywhere throughout the city. We’ve gotten into the habit of giving them a 3- to 5-DH coin during the day, and 10 DH at night or near recreational areas like the Corniche. Even on a street where parking is free, you’ll almost always come across a parking attendant. We recommend playing along: it’s a surefire way to ensure peace of mind at a low cost.

Let’s be blunt: there’s practically no such thing as free parking in Casablanca. Where there aren’t any parking meters, there’s a parking attendant. More details later in the article. Please note, however, that if you pay the parking meter, you do not have to pay the parking attendant.

Good news: rates are very reasonable compared to European standards.
Expect to pay between 2 and 6 DH per hour depending on the parking lot, which is less than €0.60.
A full day of parking rarely costs more than 50 DH, or about €5.
Essential tips
- On weekdays, downtown parking lots are full during business hours (8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.). Arrive early in the morning or visit on the weekend.
- If you’re staying in Casablanca, choose a hotel with secure private parking: leaving a rental car on the street for several consecutive nights is not recommended
- Always keep 1, 2, 5, and 10 DH coins on you to pay for parking meters and parking attendants, as international credit cards are not always accepted on the streets
- As in any big city: don’t leave any personal items or luggage in plain sight inside the vehicle. Put all your belongings in the locked trunk before arriving at your destination

Where to park to get closer to specific locations in Casablanca
Casablanca is a sprawling city: its attractions aren’t concentrated within a single pedestrian-friendly area. So here are our parking recommendations, broken down by parking lot, depending on what you’re visiting.

Where to park when visiting downtown: Mohammed V Square and Arab League Park
To explore the city’s administrative heart and its Art Deco heritage, the Place Mohammed V Underground Parking Garage is unbeatable: you emerge directly onto the square, right at the foot of the Grand Théâtre de Casablanca and the Palais de Justice. We find this ground-level exit particularly convenient for starting a stroll through the neighborhood. Another nearby option, the Place Rachidi Parking Garage, is ideally located for the Arab League Park and the Sacré-Cœur Church, just a few minutes’ walk away. We appreciated being able to explore both areas without getting back in the car: everything is within walking distance between the square and the park. You can also park on Ali Bnou Abi Taleb Street on the other side of the park (metered parking).
Where to park when visiting the Hassan II Mosque
The Hassan II Mosque is the city’s most visited landmark. For the closest access, the Marina Shopping parking lot is the ideal spot: from the shopping center, a pleasant seaside promenade leads you on foot to the mosque’s esplanade. We recommend this option over parking in the immediate vicinity of the monument, where spaces are scarce during visiting hours. The parking lot also offers a very high level of security and charging stations for electric vehicles. We left our car there with peace of mind while we toured the mosque and took a break on the Corniche.
Where should I park to visit the Old Medina?
The narrow streets of the Old Medina are pedestrian-only, extremely narrow, or impassable by car: don’t even try to drive in there. The easiest option is the Casa Port Station Parking Garage, located less than a 5-minute walk from the city walls. We find this to be the ideal spot: you leave your car in the secure underground garage, then cross the Place des Nations Unies to dive into the souks. We often take this opportunity to combine exploring the medina with a visit to the port district. Bonus: the first hour is free if you make a purchase in the station’s shopping arcade.
Where to park when visiting Aïn Diab Beach or Lalla Meryem Beach
If you’re lucky, you can park along Boulevard de l’Océan Atlantique to get to Aïn Diab Beach. There are parking spots along the beach (with parking meters or attendants), but they fill up quickly on weekends and during peak times.
Alternatively, you can use the Corniche parking lot.
If you’re visiting Lalla Meryem Beach, park in the paid parking lot at the Anfa Place Shopping Center or in the residential side streets perpendicular to the boulevard.
Note that the other beaches generally have parking nearby or spots along the promenade.

In recent years, Casablanca has built large, modern underground parking garages to relieve traffic congestion in the city center. Four facilities stand out for visitors.
Casa Port Station Parking Lot
The Casa Port Station Parking Lot combines parking with rail access, just a stone’s throw from United Nations Square and Almohades Boulevard.

The Marina Shopping Parking Garage is the largest parking structure in the city, located next to the shopping center of the same name on Boulevard des Almohades, facing the ocean.

Where can I park for free in Casablanca?
Free options in Casablanca are very limited, and it’s important to be realistic about the local situation. Here, we’ll outline the few low-cost alternatives available, while being transparent about their respective limitations.
- Only on the outskirts: you have to head away from the tourist center toward outlying, purely residential neighborhoods (certain areas of Anfa Résidentiel, Oasis, or Aïn Chock) to find streets without parking meters. You’ll then need to take the tram or a grand taxi back to the center.
- Out-of-town shopping centers: Large hypermarkets like Marjane or Carrefour located outside the city center offer free outdoor parking, but these lots are reserved for customers and are not suitable for a day of sightseeing.
- The local golden rule: there’s no such thing as completely free parking. If there’s no parking meter, there will be a parking attendant to whom you should give a coin (3 to 5 DH) to ensure peace of mind.
Where should you avoid parking in Casablanca?
Traffic in Casablanca can quickly become a headache in certain neighborhoods. It’s best to know which areas to avoid before parking your car anywhere, or you risk getting a wheel clamp, having your car towed, or being stuck in traffic for a long time.
- The Old Medina (inner city) and Derb Sultan: the inner streets of the medina are pedestrian-only, extremely narrow, or impassable by car. The working-class neighborhood of Derb Sultan suffers from extreme traffic congestion and a severe shortage of parking spaces.
- The Maârif neighborhood, around the Twin Center: a densely packed commercial area where double—or even triple—parking is a constant problem. Finding a spot there is a real challenge, and the risk of getting a wheel clamp or being blocked by another vehicle is very high. Note that the Maârif neighborhood has recently introduced regulated parking zones with parking meters.
- The immediate vicinity of the markets and Bab Marrakech: busy delivery zones, such as at the Central Market, with heavy foot traffic, carts, and white taxis blocking traffic.

It all depends on your destination. For the Hassan II Mosque, the Marina Shopping parking garage drops you off as close as possible, after a short walk along the waterfront promenade. For the historic center, the underground parking garages at Place Rachidi and Place Mohammed V lead directly to the heart of the parks, theaters, and government buildings: the pedestrian exit opens right onto the sites themselves. We find these ground-level entrances very convenient for families and people with limited mobility. We simply recommend avoiding weekday office hours, when these facilities are often full.
Secure underground parking lots in Casablanca
If you’re leaving your car for several hours or traveling with a lot of luggage, two facilities stand out for their high level of security. The Marina Shopping Parking Garage and the Casa Port Train Station Parking Garage are enclosed, well-lit facilities equipped with video surveillance and patrolled by security guards around the clock.
Is there a parking lot in Casablanca that’s open 24 hours a day?
Yes, and that’s especially convenient for late-night arrivals: the Place Rachidi, Gare Casa Port, and Place Mohammed V parking lots are open 24/7. Only the Marina Shopping parking lot follows the mall’s hours, which are generally from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Payment is made at the cash registers using a standard ticket: be sure to have some cash on hand.
What is the cheapest parking lot in Casablanca?
On-street parking in blue zones remains the most economical option, at 2 DH per hour at municipal parking meters, as in certain neighborhoods such as Les Habous. Do you have to pay car park attendants in Casablanca?
Yes, this is the local custom, and we strongly recommend that you follow it. These parking attendants in yellow vests—whether officially licensed or informal—keep an eye on vehicles on nearly every street in the city. Expect to pay 3 to 5 DH during the day and 10 DH at night or near recreational areas such as the Corniche and restaurants. We view this small fee as a peace-of-mind insurance: refusing to pay could expose your vehicle to scratches or other inconveniences. You can hand over the money when you leave; this is the most common practice there.
