Other useful tips to keep in mind

It is advisable to book well in advance during busy periods such as the Marrakech International Film Festival in December, or during European school vacations. Traffic in the Medina can be difficult and parking limited, so make sure your hotel organizes your own transfers.

In addition to hotels, in Marrakech you will find riads. These are traditional Moroccan houses built around a central patio, usually with a fountain or small pool. These historic homes, typical of Marrakech’s Medina, are characterized by their inward-looking architecture, with no windows to the outside world. This creates intimate havens of peace where we felt right at home. You’ll find that many of these buildings have been transformed into charming guest houses. Here, you can sleep and enjoy an authentic experience combining traditional Moroccan hospitality with modern comforts. Their shaded courtyards, panoramic terraces and refined decor make them unique accommodations for immersing yourself in the local culture.

Why stay there?

A stay at the Royal Mansour in Marrakech is an exceptional palace experience. We were impressed by its unique concept, inspired by the traditional medina: some 50 individual riads are scattered across the 5 hectares of lush gardens. You’ll discover that every craft detail (zelliges, tadelakt, carved woodwork) is treated with care. It’s an address that epitomizes Moroccan luxury in its finest form. We were won over by the swimming pool, the 2,500 m² spa and the gourmet restaurants run by Michelin-starred chefs… For a memorable stay at one of Marrakech’s most prestigious addresses, this palace is a must.

Is Hôtel Les Jardins de la Médina worth it? Our review

Yes, without hesitation! We were won over by the harmonious blend of traditional architecture and modern comforts. Service is attentive without being intrusive, and the atmosphere exudes tranquillity. The hotel stands out for its spaciousness (a luxury in Marrakech, a densely populated city) and the quality of its services: spa, heated pool and a restaurant where we enjoyed ourselves.

For us, Les Jardins de la Médina represents the best balance between authentic charm, intimacy and refinement. It’s the perfect place for a romantic getaway or a relaxing stopover after a day exploring the souks and palaces of Marrakech.

Decoration and atmosphere

From the moment you enter, you’ll be enchanted by the décor: tadelakt walls, colorful zelliges, sculpted doors, cedar wood ceilings… Every detail reflects Moroccan savoir-faire, without ostentation. The whole is enhanced by a contemporary touch that brings light and balance.

We particularly liked the hushed atmosphere of the interior lounges, punctuated by lanterns and the scent of orange trees. In the patios, the murmur of water and birdsong create a feeling of total calm. The atmosphere is refined, warm but never stuffy, a discreet luxury.

The room

Our room had a warm, peaceful atmosphere, just like the rest of the hotel. The contemporary Moroccan décor blended harmonious colors, creating an ambiance that was both elegant and restful. We particularly liked the hand-crafted details: the openwork light fixtures diffusing a soft light, the zelliges on the floor, and the cushions making everything cosy.

In terms of furnishings, the room was spacious and well thought-out, with a large, comfortable bed, a sitting area with armchairs, a coffee machine, a kettle, a fridge and a safe. But the real highlight was the private sun terrace, bathed in light all day long. Perfect for reading, sunbathing or enjoying a mint tea out of sight, it offered a sense of intimacy rare in the heart of Marrakech.

We fell in love with the attentions offered by the hotel:

• We were able to choose a pillow mist in the scent of our choice to personalize our room.
• We were provided with a wicker hat and basket, so that we could enjoy the pool in a practical and elegant way.
• In addition to drinks, we were offered traditional cookies.

The bathroom

The bathroom, in light tones, was as elegant as it was functional. It was equipped with a large shower and separate toilet.

We liked the attention to detail: thick towels, Moroccan toiletries scented with orange blossom, lavender and rosemary. All impeccable, extending the sense of well-being felt throughout the establishment.

The breakfast

Breakfast is served buffet-style in the garden, in the shade of the palm trees. We loved starting the day with birdsong and soft morning light.

On the menu: Moroccan crepes (msemen and baghrir), pastries, fresh fruit, squeezed juices, dried fruits and cereals, vegetables, cheeses, eggs, honey from the High Atlas and homemade jams, and many other sweet and savory treats to get the day off to a good start. A wonderful showcase for local produce and Moroccan generosity.

Equipment and common areas

The gym

A small, well-equipped room is available for training before diving into the pool. It includes a treadmill, rowing machine and body-building equipment in a very pleasant setting.

The swimming pool

Nestled in the heart of the garden, the year-round heated swimming pool is one of the hotel’s major assets. Lined with deckchairs and palm trees, it’s an invitation to relax. We loved taking a break from the heat of the medina.

Spa and boutique

The spa offers traditional Moroccan treatments: hammam, black soap scrub, argan oil massage. It’s an experience that’s part of the Moroccan art of living.

The adjoining boutique offers a fine selection of local crafts and cosmetics. Ideal for souvenirs of your stay.

The restoration

The hotel’s restaurant alone is well worth a visit! Set on the terrace or in the warmly decorated dining room, it serves fine, inventive Moroccan and Mediterranean cuisine.

We loved what we tasted. The products were enhanced by perfectly balanced spices. In the evening, candlelight and music created a romantic atmosphere. The produce is fresh, often from the hotel’s organic vegetable garden – a detail we really appreciated.

Hôtel Les Jardins de la Médina occupies a former princely residence from the XIXᵉ century, once the summer residence of a Moroccan noble family. Carefully restored, the riad has preserved its original soul while opening up to modernity. Its lush gardens, planted with centuries-old orange and palm trees, recall the tradition of Moroccan royal homes where refinement blends with nature.

We loved this thousand-year-old city, which harmoniously blends tradition and modernity, under a generous sun that bathes its ochre walls all year round.

In this article, we share 10 reasons to visit Marrakech + our tips for planning your trip.

Is Marrakech worth a visit?

Marrakech is definitely worth a visit! We were seduced by its incredible mix of heritage, colors and scents , making every stroll a unique experience. You’ll discover the hustle and bustle of the Medina, its souks overflowing withhandicrafts, and the magic of Jemaa el-Fna Square, which comes alive in the late afternoon. But beyond the hustle and bustle, Marrakech also offers havens of peace: palaces with refined mosaics, riads hidden behind heavy wooden doors, and lush gardens where you can recharge your batteries. We loved the contrast between the hustle and bustle of the alleyways and the serenity of the inner patios. And to complete the experience, the generous and fragrant Moroccan gastronomy adds a warm and friendly dimension to the stay. Marrakech is undoubtedly a must-see destination for those who want to discover the soul of Maroc.

Reason 1 – Explore the Medina and glean treasures in the souks

Marrakech’s medina is the historic heart of the city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We wandered through its labyrinthine alleys, where one specialized souk follows another: the dyer’s, with its brilliant colors, the ironmonger’s, with its pounding metal, and the spice market, with its bewitching fragrances. Reason 2 – Visit Jemaa el-Fna Square

The Place Jemaa el-Fna, recognized by UNESCO as part of humanity’s oral and intangible heritage, represents the vibrant soul of Marrakech. We were fascinated by the daily metamorphosis of this square. Mornings are filled with water carriers and orange vendors, while evenings see the appearance of storytellers, Gnaoua musicians, snake charmers and, above all, a host of traditional food stalls. A veritable open-air food court. You’ll be immersed in a permanent spectacle where acrobats rub shoulders with fortune-tellers and food stalls offer steaming local specialties. The unique atmosphere of this square transported us into a timeless universe where age-old traditions and contemporary animation blend harmoniously.

Reason 3 – Discover the many palaces and monuments

Marrakech’s architectural heritage bears witness to the past grandeur of this imperial city founded in the 11th century. In particular, we explored the Palais Bahia, with its interior adorned with zellige and delicate stucco, and the majestic ruins of the Palais El Badi, which still evoke its 16th-century splendor. You can also admire the Koutoubia, the emblematic 69m-high minaret that has dominated the city for 8 centuries, or the Saadian Tombs, discovered in 1917 and preserving masterpieces of Hispano-Moorish art. Reason 4 – Stroll through gardens planted with Mediterranean and exotic species

Marrakech’s gardens are havens of peace, ideal for escaping the hustle and bustle of the Medina. We strolled through the Jardin Majorelle, created by French painter Jacques Majorelle and restored by Yves Saint Laurent, where the cobalt blue of the buildings contrasts magnificently against a backdrop of cactus and bamboo. The Menara gardens seduced us with their age-old pool reflecting a Saadian Pavilion against a backdrop of the Atlas Mountains, while olive and orange orchards stretch over almost 500 hectares.

Reason 5 – Discover Marrakech’s many fascinating museums

The museum scene in Marrakesh has expanded considerably in recent years, offering a fascinating insight into Moroccan art and culture. We visited the Musée Yves Saint Laurent, dedicated to the French couturier and his work inspired by Morocco, as well as the Musée Berbère in the Majorelle garden, featuring an exceptional collection of Amazigh jewelry, textiles and everyday objects. You’ll be amazed by the Musée de Marrakech, housed in the Palais Dar Menebhi, which displays contemporary art and traditional objects under sumptuous cedar domes. We were particularly impressed by the new Museum of Photography, with its visual archives tracing the city’s evolution from the 19th century to the present day.

Reason 6 – Taste the famous Moroccan gastronomy

Marrakech cuisine represents the very essence of Moroccan gastronomy, rich in flavors and centuries-old traditions. We savored authentic simmered tajines, whose fragrances of saffron, ginger and cinnamon will make your mouth water. For example, you can try a pigeon pastilla sprinkled with powdered sugar and cinnamon, a melting méchoui cooked in earthen ovens, or tanjia marrakchia, the city’s signature dish stewed in the ashes of hammams. Don’t forget to save room for traditional pastries: gazelle horns with almonds, ghribas with pistachios, briouates with almonds and honey… accompanied by mint tea served according to an unchanging ritual that is an integral part of Moroccan hospitality.

Reason 7 – Experience a stay in a Riad

Staying in a riad is an authentic experience not to be missed when visiting Marrakech. We were charmed by these traditional residences organized around a central patio, true oases of tranquility in the heart of the medina. You’ll appreciate the preserved Hispano-Moorish architecture, from the colorful zelliges to the painted cedar wood ceilings, and the fountains murmuring in the orange-tree-lined courtyards. We were particularly impressed by the legendary hospitality of the riad owners, offering breakfasts on panoramic terraces and expert advice on discovering the hidden treasures of the ochre city.

Reason 8 – Relax in traditional hammams and spas

The Hammams of Marrakech perpetuate a thousand-year-old tradition of purification and well-being inherited from Roman times and perfected by the Arab-Andalusian civilization. We’ve experienced the complete ritual in century-old establishments in the medina, from the black soap scrub to the argan oil massage and ghassoul body wrap. You’ll enjoy a unique sensory experience in these vaulted spaces, where enveloping steam prepares the skin for traditional treatments. Modern spas also appeal to us, combining ancestral Moroccan techniques with contemporary relaxation methods in sumptuous settings worthy of a thousand and one nights.

Reason 9 – Take a trip to the Agafay Desert and the Atlas Mountains

The area around Marrakech offers spectacular scenery that can be reached in just a few hours’ drive from the ochre city. We explored the Agafay Desert, a lunar expanse of stone and earth just 40km from Marrakech, where sunsets set the horizon ablaze in absolute silence. You can also discover the Atlas Mountains, peaking at over 4,000m at Toubkal, where Berber villages clinging to steep slopes perpetuate ancestral traditions. The lush green valleys of Ourika and Asni offered a welcome breath of fresh air. And let’s not forget the Ouzoud waterfalls, the highest in Morocco at 110m: an unforgettable excursion just 150km from Marrakech.

Reason 10 – Observing the cohabitation of modernity and tradition

Marrakech is a perfect example of Morocco’s ability to combine its age-old heritage with contemporary development. We were struck by the contrast between the centuries-old medina and the Guéliz district, with its wide avenues lined with international boutiques and trendy cafés. You’ll see this duality in the architecture, where traditional riads rub shoulders with designer hotels, or in the gastronomy, where Michelin-starred restaurants revisit ancestral recipes. This harmonious coexistence was particularly appealing to us in the new museums, which use modern technologies to enhance the city’s cultural heritage, or in the international festivals that enliven the city while respecting its deep-rooted identity.

Some disadvantages of a trip to Marrakech

Heavy traffic and traffic jams

Traffic in Marrakech can be chaotic, especially during rush hour and on main thoroughfares like Avenue Mohammed V. We’ve found that mopeds, horse-drawn carriages, cabs and pedestrians share the pavement in a sometimes disconcerting ballet for unwary visitors. You’ll need to be constantly vigilant to cross the streets, where the rules of right of way sometimes seem random. Traffic jams around the Medina and Jemaa el-Fna Square regularly delayed us, lengthening theoretically short journeys. The noise pollution generated by incessant horn honking and backfiring engines is also a noticeable nuisance in some quarters.

Parking

Finding a parking space in Marrakech can be a real challenge, especially on the outskirts of the Medina, where the narrow streets make it impossible for vehicles to enter. We recommend you use the paid parking lots on the outskirts of the old town. You may come across improvised guards who ask for a tip to keep an eye on your vehicle – a common practice, but one that can annoy some visitors. We found parking rates in the official parking lots to be reasonable, ranging from 20 to 50 dirhams for a day, but the distance from the tourist sites means you have to walk or take a cab afterwards.

Pollution

Air pollution is a worrying reality in Marrakech, particularly visible on windless days when a veil envelops the city. We have felt the effects of this pollution, particularly on the main arteries where exhaust fumes are concentrated. You’ll also notice the presence of garbage in certain outlying districts, but efforts are being made to modernize garbage management. Noise pollution can be a nuisance, especially at night in some neighborhoods: calls to prayer, roaring engines and hustle and bustle.

The weather

If you’re on the fence about visiting Marrakech, the weather is one of its greatest assets! We enjoyed its sunny climate almost all year round, allowing us to enjoy the city to the full whatever the season. In spring and autumn, temperatures are mild and ideal for exploring the Medina or the gardens without suffering from the heat. In summer, the heat can be intense, often exceeding 35°C, but evenings are more pleasant and traditional riads always offer a little coolness. In winter, the days are generally sunny, with temperatures hovering around 15°C to 20°C, making for very pleasant visits. You can even admire the snow-capped Atlas Mountains in the background, a striking contrast to the city’s palm trees. Marrakech is therefore an attractive destination all year round, with a different rhythm and atmosphere depending on the season.

Social contrast

Marrakech is a city of contrasts, where the glitz and glamour of the palaces rub shoulders with the simpler bustle of the working-class neighborhoods. This difference may surprise some travelers, especially when faced with the presence of beggars around tourist sites or in the Medina. You may also come across children offering small services or items for sale. These situations reflect the sometimes difficult social realities, but they are also part of local life. We think it’s important to be aware of this before you set off, to avoid any discomfort and to approach the city with goodwill.

The tourist influx

Marrakech attracts millions of visitors every year, and this is reflected in the most emblematic sites, such as the Bahia Palace and Majorelle Gardens. Queues can be long and the atmosphere less intimate than hoped. In the souks, the hustle and bustle of the vendors is constant, and can be tiring for visitors looking for a bit of peace and quiet. Nevertheless, with a little preparation – for example, by visiting early in the morning or in the off-season – you’ll be able to enjoy the place more serenely.

The rates

With its growing success, Marrakech has seen its prices rise, especially in charming riads and popular restaurants. Some prices are now approaching those charged in major European cities. In the souks, bargaining remains a common practice: the first advertised prices can be high, but haggling is part of the game and part of the local culture. We even found it added a touch of authenticity to the experience, provided you go in with a smile and a little patience. Some of the highlights, such as hot-air ballooning or dinner shows, can put a strain on the budget, but there are plenty of more affordable options for enjoying the city to the full.

How to get to Marrakech

Marrakech-Ménara airport offers direct flights from major European cities. Low-cost airlines offer attractive fares all year round. From the airport, shuttles, cabs and private transfers take you to the city center in 15 minutes. Trains link Marrakech to Casablanca in 3 hours, with connections to Rabat and Tangiers. CTM and Supratours buses serve all major Moroccan cities from the bus station.

3. Visit the Jardin Majorelle and the Yves Saint Laurent Museum

Why visit?

The Jardin Majorelle, created by painter Jacques Majorelle in the 1920s, offers a cool oasis in the heart of the Guéliz district. We were captivated by the intense cobalt blue that adorns the buildings, now known worldwide as “Majorelle blue”, and by the exceptional collection of cacti and exotic plants. The garden is home to over 300 plant species from 5 continents, including giant bamboos, palms and bougainvillea. You’ll also discover the Musée des Arts Berbères, with its remarkable collection of traditional objects, and the nearby Musée Yves Saint Laurent, dedicated to the famous couturier who saved the garden from destruction in 1980.

4. See the Koutoubia Mosque

Why visit?

The Koutoubia Mosque, a jewel of 12th-century Almohad architecture, dominates Marrakech from its 69m-high minaret. Did you know? It’s the city’s largest mosque! We admired this architectural masterpiece, whose name means “booksellers’ mosque”, in reference to the manuscript souk that once surrounded it. The minaret, decorated with green earthenware and geometric motifs, served as a model for Sevilla’s Giralda and Rabat’s Tour Hassan. The gardens surrounding the mosque, planted with orange and palm trees, offer a haven of peace just a stone’s throw from the hustle and bustle of Jemaa el-Fna Square. The call to prayer, which resounds five times a day from this emblematic minaret, sets the pace for life in the ochre city.

• Important: As with the rest of the city’s mosques, entry is forbidden to non-Muslims. You’ll have to be content with observing it from the outside.

5. Explore the Bahia Palace

Why visit?

The Palais Bahia, built at the end of the 19th century for the Grand Vizier Ba Ahmed, bears witness to the splendor of traditional Moroccan architecture. We wandered through its richly decorated rooms, admiring the painted cedarwood ceilings, walls adorned with colorful zelliges and courtyards planted with orange trees. The name “Bahia” means “the brilliant” in Arabic, in homage to the vizier’s favorite wife. You’ll marvel at the 1500m² courtyard of honor, paved with Carrara marble and surrounded by galleries of finely sculpted columns. The private apartments reveal the refinement of palatial life, with their delicate moucharabiehs and murmuring fountains in each patio.

7. Gleaning treasures in the souk

The souks of Marrakech form a fascinating labyrinth where each artisan guild has occupied its own quarter for centuries. We explored these traditional markets organized by trade: the dyers’ souk, where skeins of wool dry in the sun, the babouches souk, with its thousands of colorful shoes, and the spices souk, with its heady scents of saffron and ras el-hanout. Here, craftsmen perpetuate ancestral techniques, from copper hammering to natural leather dyeing. You can haggle over hand-woven Berber carpets, wrought-iron lanterns, Fez pottery or chased silver jewelry. The art of negotiation is an integral part of the experience, turning every purchase into an authentic cultural exchange.

8. Taste Moroccan cuisine

Why visit?

Moroccan gastronomy, rich in a thousand flavors, is an unmissable experience in Marrakech. We savored tajines simmered in earthenware conical dishes, combining tender meats, melting vegetables and dried fruits in unique sweet-savory combinations. Friday couscous, an age-old family tradition, comes in royal versions garnished with seven vegetables. Enjoy pastillas, crispy puff pastries with alternating layers of spicy poultry and sweet almonds sprinkled with cinnamon. Traditional restaurants also offer slow-roasted lamb mechouis and tangia, candied meat dishes cooked in the ashes of hammams. Of course, vegetarian dishes are also plentiful. 9. Explore the El Badi Palace

Why visit?

The Palais El Badi, built in the 16th century by the Saadian sultan Ahmed al-Mansour, was nicknamed “l’Incomparable” for its legendary magnificence. We strolled through the imposing ruins of this palace, which boasted 360 rooms adorned with Italian marble, onyx and porphyry columns. Although stripped of its riches by the Alawite sultan Moulay Ismaïl in the 17th century, the site still impresses with its colossal dimensions and monumental basins. You can climb the ramparts to admire the panoramic view over the Medina and the storks nesting on the walls. The Saadian Tombs, rediscovered in 1917 after being walled up for centuries, are a hidden gem of Moroccan funerary architecture. We were dazzled by the decorative richness of these 16th-century mausoleums, where some sixty members of the Saadian dynasty are buried. The Hall of the Twelve Columns, a true architectural masterpiece, houses the tomb of Sultan Ahmed al-Mansour beneath a carved cedar dome supported by Carrara marble columns. Admire the extraordinarily fine chiselled stuccowork, the intricate geometric zellij and the gilded kufic inscriptions on the walls. We also enjoyed the flower-filled garden where other tombs are scattered. It offers a haven of peace, contrasting with the opulence of the interior rooms, which bear witness to the past grandeur of this dynasty.

11. Explore the Ben Youssef Medersa

Why visit?

The Médersa Ben Youssef, founded in the 14th century and rebuilt in the 16th, represents the pinnacle of Moroccan religious architecture. We explored this former Koranic school, which welcomed up to 900 students from all over the Maghreb to study theology, law and science. The central patio, surrounded by finely sculpted arcades, houses a rectangular white marble pool reflecting the façades adorned with delicate stucco and elaborate cedar woodwork. You’ll discover 130 student cells spread over 2 floors, austere in contrast to the decorative richness of the common areas. The prayer room impresses with its carved marble mihrab. Every architectural detail testifies to the skill of Moroccan craftsmen and the importance of education in Arab-Andalusian civilization.

12. Walk in the Menara Gardens

Why visit?

The Menara Gardens, nestled against the Atlas Mountains, were created in the 12th century by the Almohads. They offer a verdant escape to the west of Marrakech. We enjoyed the tranquility of this 100-hectare olive grove. We also discovered its ingenious system of khettaras: an irrigation system made up of underground canals carrying water from the Atlas Mountains. The 12th-century Saadian pavilion is reflected in the vast rectangular pool, creating one of Marrakech’s most emblematic images, with the snow-capped mountains in the background. You can stroll under the centuries-old olive trees where Marrakchis come to picnic with their families, especially at sunset when the golden light illuminates the pavilion. The gardens were once a place of pleasure for the sultans, who came here to refresh themselves and contemplate the exceptional panorama of the Atlas Mountains.

Legend has it that the palm grove was formed from date pits discarded by Almoravid soldiers. We recommend a stroll at sunset, which lends the area a romantic, soothing atmosphere far from the hustle and bustle of the Medina. Today, the Palmeraie is home to luxurious villas and prestigious hotels, but still retains traditional areas where farmers perpetuate age-old cultivation methods.

The Agafay Desert, just 30km from Marrakech, offers a desert experience without having to travel hundreds of kilometers to the Sahara. We were amazed by this stony desert with its lunar landscapes, punctuated by rocky hills and arid plateaus offering spectacular panoramas of the Atlas Mountains. The changing colors of the landscape, from beige to red ochre depending on the light, create a mystical atmosphere conducive to contemplation. Enjoy the experience of bivouacking under the stars in luxurious Berber camps, dining in caïdal tents and savoring a traditional méchoui accompanied by Gnaoua music. Activities range from sunset strolls and hikes through dry wadis to quad biking through rocky tracks. This getaway allows you to experience the magic of the desert while returning to Marrakech for the night.

You’ll discover colorful weekly markets where Berber women sell saffron and hand-woven carpets, as well as argan oil cooperatives. Hikes lead to breathtaking panoramas of snow-capped peaks, including Toubkal, North Africa’s highest peak. The villages of Imlil and Asni serve as bases for trekking tours suitable for all levels, enabling you to meet the Amazigh people in their unspoilt environment.

The traditional ritual comprises several stages: passage through progressively heated rooms, scrubbing with black soap and kessa glove, then rinsing with lukewarm water. You’ll appreciate the argan oil massage that usually concludes the session, leaving the skin soft and revitalized. Historic hammams like the one in Quartier Mouassine retain their traditional architecture, with vaulted ceilings pierced by oculi allowing light to filter through.

How do I get to Marrakech?

Marrakech-Ménara airport offers direct flights from major European cities. Low-cost airlines offer attractive fares all year round. From the airport, shuttles, cabs and private transfers take you to the city center in 15 minutes. Trains link Marrakech to Casablanca in 3 hours, with connections to Rabat and Tangiers. CTM and Supratours buses serve all major Moroccan cities from the bus station.

Parking in Marrakech

Parking in the Medina remains limited to guarded parking lots near the main gates: Bab Doukkala, Bab Agnaou and Place Jemaa el-Fna. Daily rates vary from 20 to 50 DH. In the modern district of Guéliz, on-street parking is subject to a charge, with attendants issuing tickets. We recommend that you leave your car in the parking lot of your accommodation and explore the city on foot or by cab, which is more convenient for navigating the narrow streets.

Getting around Marrakech

Small red cabs are the most convenient way to get around Marrakech. Insist on using the meter or negotiate the price before departure. Traditional horse-drawn carriages offer a romantic alternative for tourist trips. In the Medina, walking is a must, as many alleyways are inaccessible to vehicles. City buses serve the outlying districts, but remain impractical for visitors. For excursions, large cabs or organized tours make it easy to get around.
