Many riads have been carefully renovated to provide modern comforts without losing the old-world charm of this imperial city. Other useful tips to keep in mind
- Morocco’s administrative and political capital, Rabat is a calm, clean city with a balance between modernity and tradition. Less hectic than Casablanca, it offers a quality of life appreciated by travelers and locals alike. It’s a city on a human scale, ideal for a cultural break, a romantic weekend or a business trip.
- The climate is mild oceanic, with pleasant winters and summers moderated by sea breezes. It can be visited all year round, but April to June and September to November are particularly pleasant months for enjoying the terraces, parks and nearby beaches.
- Hotel demand is strong during school vacations, political events and international economic forums. Neighborhoods such as Hassan, Agdal and Marina are highly sought-after. We recommend booking in advance, especially in spring and autumn.

- Parking in the city center can be tricky, especially around the medina, Avenue Mohammed V and the Hassan district. If you’re coming by car, choose hotels with private parking or valet parking. Some areas offer supervised pay parking. Find out more here.
- In Rabat, a tramway network links the city’s main districts with Salé, crossing the Bouregreg river. Blue cabs (official city cabs) are ubiquitous and cheap for short distances, although they can be hard to find at peak times. The VTC option is also interesting and safe to explore! To explore the surrounding area, car hire can be useful, but please be careful with traffic and parking.

- Rabat is a green city: take advantage of large parks such as the Jardin d’Essais Botaniques or the seafront for peaceful strolls. It’s also a dynamic cultural capital, with a rich program including the Mawazine Festival, one of the world’s biggest music festivals (see here), as well as theater, cinema and dance events throughout the year. Consult the city’s cultural calendar here or the official tourist office website here (or even at your accommodation).
- Bear in mind that the criteria for awarding hotel stars can vary from country to country. In Rabat, many of the tourist accommodations in our selection are located in urban and modern buildings. In the historic center, some apartments are located in old traditional houses (in areas that are sometimes noisy at night).
