But beyond this image, the city has much more to offer families than one might imagine: a striking Art Deco architectural heritage, a 30-hectare urban park, beaches accessible from downtown, and a mosque where guided tours are suitable even for very young children. We found it to be more family-friendly than its reputation suggests, provided you’re prepared for a few challenges typical of a large Moroccan city.

Check out our ideas for things to do in Casablanca with kids, illustrated with photos. We visited the region anonymously, making our own choices and paying our bills in full.

Visiting Casablanca with kids: Is it a good idea?

For what age group is this city suitable?

In our opinion, Casablanca really becomes interesting for children ages 5–6 and up. At this age, they can enjoy short, fast-paced cultural tours, such as the Hassan II Mosque, where you do a lot of walking during the guided tour. They can also marvel at the very tangible details: the zellige tiles, the chandeliers, the spacious interiors, and even the retractable roof.

If you have younger children, the city is still a pleasant place to visit if you focus on outdoor activities: a stroll along the Corniche, Aïn Diab Beach, the Arab League Park, or Anfa Park. These are great places to run around, play, have a snack, or simply take a breather between sightseeing stops. For teenagers, Casablanca offers a more varied lineup than you might imagine: Art Deco architecture, the Habous district, markets, museums, the beach, and cafés. It’s a city best explored over two or three days, without trying to do everything.

Our Tips for Visiting Casablanca with Your Family

Casablanca is a big city: when traveling with children, it’s best to avoid overly packed days. We recommend alternating a cultural visit with a more relaxed break—in a park, along the Corniche, or near the beach. The mild climate for much of the year also makes for pleasant walks, especially in the spring and fall.

For getting around, the tram is convenient and serves several family-friendly destinations. Taxis or ride-sharing services are a good way to complete your trips, especially when traveling with young children. However, some neighborhoods, such as Les Habous or the old medina, are less stroller-friendly due to narrow alleys, uneven surfaces, and damaged sidewalks. We recommend bringing a baby carrier as well. Also, plan your visits to museums and markets for the morning, preferably on weekdays, to avoid the crowds. On Fridays, some shops and attractions adjust their hours around the midday prayer. Finally, keep small bills and change on hand for parking attendants, tips, or small purchases along the way.

WHERE TO STAY IN Casablanca

Our favorites: neighborhoods and hotels

Corniche / Aïn Diab –
Four Seasons Hotel – see prices, photos and availability

Gauthier / Sidi Belyout –
Hôtel Le DOGE Relais & Châteaux – see prices, photos and availability

See our complete selection of the best hotels in Casablanca

See all available accommodation >>

1. Marvel at the Hassan II Mosque

Why visit with children?

The Hassan II Mosque is an impressive place to visit with the family. It is one of the few active Muslim places of worship open to non-Muslim visitors—an interesting fact to explain to children before entering. With its 210-meter minaret—one of the tallest in the world—it also dominates the Casablanca skyline.

The guided tour is mandatory and lasts about 1 hour. The format is well-suited for children ages 4–5 and up, since you’re constantly on the move inside the building. They can look up at the large chandeliers, examine the zellige tiles, walk on the marble floors, and spot the details of the retractable roof. We found that these very concrete elements capture their attention better than overly long historical explanations.

What we liked

We were impressed by the richness of the details: the marble, cedar wood, colorful zellige tiles, and tadelakt make you want to look everywhere. It’s a visit where children can easily spot shapes, patterns, and materials, even without fully understanding the history of the place.
After the tour, we really enjoyed lingering a while on the esplanade. The space is vast, opening out onto the Atlantic, and allows children to walk freely or stretch their legs before heading back. The nearby media library can also be an interesting stop if you still have a little time. The adjacent area is also worth a visit.

Practical advice

Duration of the visit: 1 hour for the guided tour, followed by 30 minutes to 1 hour of exploring on your own on the esplanade and in the media library

Hours: Saturday through Thursday, tours at 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 12 p.m., and 3 p.m.; Friday at 9 a.m., 10 a.m., and 3 p.m. Visit the official website for more info here.

Challenges and Access for People with Disabilities: Guided tour required; dress code must be followed; shoes must be removed at the entrance (bag provided by the guide); access and equipment for people with disabilities are available

Admission: 140 dirhams for non-Moroccan adults; 70 dirhams for Moroccan adults, foreign residents, and foreign students; 30 dirhams for children ages 4 to 12 and Moroccan students; free for children under 4 when accompanied by an adult

Directions: between the port and the El Hank Lighthouse

Parking: 800-space underground parking garage

Dining: No on-site dining; nearby: Rick’s Café (upscale), La Sqala (traditional Moroccan cuisine), Cabestan Ocean View (fish and seafood)

Book your ticket now to save time!

2. Children can run around, play in the designated areas of Yasmina Park, or simply enjoy the wide, shaded paths lined with palm trees and ficus trees.

It’s a very convenient stop between cultural visits, especially with young children. We loved its family-friendly atmosphere and peaceful setting, which contrasts with the hustle and bustle of the surrounding streets. Since its renovation, the park has served its purpose well: allowing families to relax, take a leisurely stroll, and enjoy a bit of fresh air in the heart of the city.

What we liked

We loved the wide, shaded avenues, which offer a real breath of fresh air in the heart of Casablanca. After a cultural tour or a trip around town, it’s the kind of place where kids can walk around freely, look at the palm trees, take a snack break, or just slow down.

From the park, you can also see the old Sacré-Cœur Church, which has now been converted into a cultural center. It’s a beautiful architectural landmark to show the kids, either before or after the walk. The information signs in French and Arabic add a bit of educational value without making the visit feel too heavy.

Practical advice

Duration of the visit: 1 hour 30 minutes to 3 hours, depending on the children’s interest and energy level

Hours: Daily from 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. (hours may vary depending on the season and during Ramadan). The park is spacious and open, and offers a welcome change of pace: kids can play, run around near the fountains, enjoy the designated play areas, or participate in workshops depending on the schedule.

We especially recommend it to families with young children, as the location is perfect for a more relaxed half-day outing. People come here less to “sightsee” than to unwind, take their time, and recharge—something both parents and children often need during a city getaway.

What we liked

We loved the mix of green spaces, play areas, and cultural attractions. Anfa Park has something for children of all ages: the youngest can run around freely, while older children can enjoy workshops or the media library, depending on the schedule.

Another advantage of this place is that it doesn’t impose a set pace for your visit. You can stay for an hour or half a day, stop by the fountains, take a snack break, or simply let the kids play before continuing with your plans.

Practical advice

Duration of the tour: half a day, depending on the itinerary

Hours: Visit the official website for more information here.

Accessibility and Challenges: Open space, generally accessible

Prices: depending on the activities chosen

Directions: Anfa Supérieur neighborhood

Parking: Street parking in the adjacent streets

4. Children can walk on the sand, watch the waves, play on the boardwalk, or enjoy water sports depending on the season.

Swimming is possible, but caution is advised: the waves, tides, and Atlantic currents can be strong. If you have young children, we especially recommend enjoying the seaside, the playgrounds, and a stroll along the shore. Lalla Meryem Beach, closer to the El Hank Lighthouse, offers a slightly quieter alternative along the Corniche.

What we liked

We appreciated being able to rent chairs, lounge chairs, and umbrellas during the season, which makes it easier for families to settle in. The Sidi Abderrahman islet, visible from Aïn Diab Beach and accessible at low tide, is a detail that catches children’s attention and adds a touch of adventure to the walk.

Practical advice

Duration of visit: 1 hour to a full day, depending on your itinerary

Hours: Open 24/7

Challenges and Access for People with Disabilities: Watch for the flags indicating when swimming is permitted; the beach is patrolled during the season; beach chairs, lounge chairs, and umbrellas are available for rent during the season

Rates: free access

Directions: T2 tram line, Aïn Diab Plage stop

Parking: paid parking at Morocco Mall, Parc Sindibad, or at the start of the promenade toward the Hôtel Suisse; parking is difficult on the boulevard during peak season

Dining: La Ola Restaurant and Le Basmane Restaurant on the Aïn Diab Beach side; Cabestan Ocean View Restaurant on the El Hank Lighthouse side—see our suggestions here

OUR TIPS FOR RENTING A CAR IN MOROCCO

Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.

Not too wide

A good engine

For more choice, book early.

See available cars >>

Read all our tips

5. Built in the early 20th century, it blends traditional Moroccan architecture with colonial influences, featuring arcades, shopping alleys, and lively little squares.

With children, it’s above all a sensory experience: observing the colors of the market stalls, smelling the aroma of pastries, and noticing the ornate moldings, traditional ovens, and cafés that bring the neighborhood to life. We recommend this tour for children ages 6–7 and up, who are comfortable navigating narrow streets and bustling areas. With a stroller, the tour is less comfortable: some passages are narrow, the ground can be uneven, and accessibility for people with disabilities remains challenging. A baby carrier may be more practical for younger children.

What we liked

We love Habous for its warm atmosphere and its more leisurely pace compared to other neighborhoods in Casablanca. It’s a pleasure to stroll under the arcades, browse the craft shop windows, pop into a bookstore, or stop to admire the intricate details of the facades.

The Al-Mohammadi Mosque, with its minaret inspired by the Koutoubia in Marrakech, serves as a beautiful landmark in the neighborhood. Children will especially enjoy a sweet treat at Pâtisserie Bennis Habous, the perfect place to sample some Moroccan delicacies before continuing the stroll.

Practical advice

Tour duration: 1 to 2 hours

Hours: starting at 10:00–10:30 a.m.; avoid Fridays and Sundays, as some stores are closed

Challenges and Accessibility for People with Disabilities: narrow alleys; difficult access for strollers and people with disabilities

Rates: free access

Directions: Take tram line T3 to the Habous stop, or line T2 to the Derb Sultan stop (a 10-minute walk)

Parking: Available on the adjacent streets near the administrative court or near Murdoch Park (parking attendant—pay with small change; parking meters on some streets)

Dining: Zayna Restaurant (Moroccan cuisine), Bennis Habous Pastry Shop, L’Étoile Centrale Restaurant

Book a guided tour now to save time!

6. The promenade is well-maintained, perfect for kids, and lets you enjoy the sea air without necessarily planning to go for a swim. You can walk, bike on certain sections, watch the waves, or stop for ice cream, depending on the time of day.

In the Aïn Diab area, Sindibad Park is another great way to round out your outing, with attractions for all ages. We loved the lively atmosphere along the Corniche, which is just as pleasant during the day as it is in the early evening. Taking the tram from downtown is convenient and saves you the trouble of looking for a parking spot along the waterfront.

What we liked

We especially loved the smell of the sea that accompanied our walk and the view of Sidi Abderrahman Islet from the Aïn Diab side. It’s a simple but very pleasant walk with children: you move along at the pace of the waves, stopping for photos and little snack breaks. Sindibad Park, located in the same area, also makes it easy to extend the outing. Starting at Place Mohammed V, children can spot the facades, columns, patterns, large doors, and even the pigeon fountain. To keep them interested, it’s best to focus on concrete details rather than lengthy architectural explanations: What was this building used for? What shape do you see on the facade? Why does this dome catch your eye? We recommend this tour for children ages 8–10 and up, especially those who enjoy walking, observing, and searching for clues around the city.

What we liked

We loved the blend of Art Deco lines and Moroccan motifs, which can be seen on several facades in the city center. On Boulevard de Paris, for example, Bank Al Maghrib offers a great vantage point from which to observe this interplay between geometric forms, arches, sculpted decorations, and details inspired by local crafts. When traveling with children, this architectural heritage becomes more accessible when you turn it into a game of observation: spotting a shape, comparing two facades, looking for a pattern, or looking up at a monumental doorway. It’s a simple way to make the stroll more lively.

Practical advice

Duration of visit: 1 hour to half a day, depending on your interest

Hours: Outdoor visits are possible at any time

Challenges and Access for People with Disabilities: Sidewalks are sometimes narrow or damaged

Admission: Free for outdoor tours

Access: Sidi Belyout, Derb Omar, and Mers Sultan neighborhoods; several tram stops nearby (lines T1, T3, T4). When visiting with children, its main advantage is its size: the tour is short, easy to follow, and doesn’t require spending half a day there. We recommend it for children ages 8–10 and up, especially those who are drawn to images, colors, and objects. The vintage posters, jewelry, and ceramics offer plenty to see, even without interactive displays. The café on the top floor also offers a pleasant place to take a break at the end of the visit, with a view of the historic Sacré-Cœur Church.

What we liked

We loved the diversity of the collections, which included vintage posters, paintings, jewelry, and ceramics. The museum is perfect for a short visit, with plenty of details to take in without having to explain everything to the kids. A break at the café on the top floor is also a real plus. Surrounded by vintage posters, the space offers a chance to catch your breath before heading out again—especially with kids who need to break up the visit with a quieter moment.

Practical advice

Duration of visit: 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on interest

Hours: Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., including holidays (except Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, and Eid al-Mawlid). Its architecture immediately catches the eye, with its Art Deco lines, spacious interior, and details inspired by a variety of styles.

With children, the focus is mainly visual: observing the facade, spotting shapes, looking up at the heights, and comparing this building with other structures in the city center. A tour of the interior depends on the schedule, but the exterior is easy to explore during a stroll. We recommend combining this with a visit to the Arab League Park, located nearby. This makes for a well-rounded half-day outing that balances architecture, a stroll, and a break in nature.

What we liked

We loved the contrast between the building’s imposing silhouette, the decorative buttresses, and the more modern stained-glass windows. Even without delving into the architectural details, it’s a building that catches the eye and makes you want to look up. The site has also been given a new lease on life with its exhibition spaces and cultural events. For families, the main attraction is admiring it from the outside, noticing its unique shapes, and incorporating it into a stroll around the Arab League Park.

Practical advice

Duration of visit: varies depending on the schedule

Hours: Open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., depending on the cultural program

Accessibility and Challenges for People with Disabilities: Varies by event; flat sidewalk outside

Prices: depending on the program

Directions: A 5-minute walk from Parc de la Ligue Arabe, Boulevard Rachidi

Parking: Paid underground parking on Boulevard Rachidi (be sure to have change)

Dining: Gare aux Gorilles Restaurant, a 15-minute walk away; L’Artiste Restaurant, a 10-minute walk away

Choose a guided tour of the city that includes this landmark!

11. If you’re visiting with children, we recommend it for kids ages 8–10 and up, especially if they’re comfortable in bustling places. The aisles can be noisy and crowded, but they also offer plenty to see: stalls selling fruit, flowers, and fresh fish, as well as zellige fountains and the central rotunda. It’s a very sensory experience, perfect for discovering local flavors and customs in a different way. Younger children may quickly feel overwhelmed by the crowds; in that case, it’s best to go early in the morning and keep the visit short. We also enjoyed the option of having lunch right there in the market’s small restaurants, which allowed us to extend the experience without having to go anywhere else.

What we liked

We loved the lively atmosphere in the aisles, with the colorful stalls, chats with the vendors, and the comings and goings of the locals. It’s a lively place, but also very hands-on for kids: they can observe the fish, identify fruits, look at the flowers, or ask questions about local products. The presence of artists exhibiting their paintings adds an unexpected touch to the visit. And if your children are comfortable in bustling places, having lunch at one of the market’s small restaurants is a simple way to extend the experience, right in the heart of Casablanca’s atmosphere.

Practical advice

Duration of visit: 1 to 3 hours if you have lunch there

Hours: Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (except on holidays); Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Challenges and Accessibility for People with Disabilities: wheelchair and stroller accessible; arrive in the morning to avoid the crowds and have a wider selection

Prices: Free admission; products and food and drink are subject to a fee

Directions: Tram Line 1, Marché Central stop

Parking: parking lot on Rue Chaouia; parking is difficult on adjacent streets, which are often full

Dining: Several dining options on site; nearby: L’Étoile Centrale Restaurant (traditional cuisine) and La Bodega Restaurant (tapas, Spanish atmosphere)

Want to explore Casablanca’s central market? Downtown and the Gauthier/Sidi Belyout neighborhoods are convenient for visiting the Hassan II Mosque, the Arab League Park, the Abderrahman Slaoui Museum, or the Habous neighborhood.

If you prefer to be near the sea, the Corniche and Aïn Diab offer more direct access to the beach, oceanfront promenades, and Sindibad Park. The Four Seasons Hotel or the Club Val d’Anfa Ocean View Hotel are good options in this area. For more independence when traveling with children, an aparthotel like the Stayhere CIL Aparthotel can also be convenient, offering more space and a fully equipped kitchen.

Four Seasons Hotel Pool

If you’re traveling with children, be sure to check directly with the hotels about family-friendly amenities: connecting rooms, extra beds, cribs, kitchenettes, or parking. Parking in Casablanca isn’t always easy, so a hotel with parking or valet service can really make things easier.

Stayhere CIL Aparthotel

Visiting Casablanca with Children, Depending on the Season

Spring (March–May)

This is the time of year we recommend most highly for families. Temperatures are mild, crowds at tourist sites are manageable, and the days are perfect for combining cultural visits and beach time without any hassle. Children find it easier to walk around under these conditions.

Summer (June – August)

The summer heat in Casablanca is more bearable than in Marrakech thanks to its coastal location. Aïn Diab Beach and the Corniche are at their best, and we recommend scheduling cultural visits in the morning so you can spend your afternoons at the beach. Be sure to bring water and sunscreen, and plan for breaks during your activities.

Autumn (September – October)

The sea remains at a pleasant temperature in September, the city returns to a more relaxed pace, and conditions are ideal for balancing cultural activities with time at the beach. We enjoyed winter in Casablanca, which is generally mild with daytime temperatures rarely dropping below 15°C (59°F)—warm enough to enjoy most of the activities on the itinerary.

Winter (November–February)

Winter in Casablanca is one of the best times of year for museums and cultural tours: the sites are less crowded, and the mild temperatures make it comfortable to get around. Expect a few rainy days and some wind due to the coastal location, but this shouldn’t interfere with your plans.

Frequently asked questions

Is Casablanca stroller-friendly?

Partly. The Arab League Park, the Corniche, Ain Diab Beach, and the Central Market are accessible by stroller. However, the Habous district, United Nations Square, and the old medina of Bab Marrakech present real challenges: narrow alleys, uneven sidewalks, and frequent steps. We recommend bringing a baby carrier in addition to the stroller for half-day cultural excursions in the historic center.

How many days should you plan to spend in Casablanca with your family?

Two to three days are enough to see the main sights with children without overloading the itinerary. The first day can be spent at the Hassan II Mosque, the Arab League Park, and Anfa Park; the second to the beaches of Aïn Diab and Lalla Meryem, the Corniche, and Sindibad Park; and the third to the Habous, the Bennis House, and museums, depending on the children’s interests.

What can you do in Casablanca when it rains?

Rainy days in Casablanca are rare but do occur in winter. Families have several options on such days: museums (Abderrahman Slaoui, Moroccan Judaism, Villa des Arts), covered markets (Central Market, Habous), shopping centers such as the Morocco Mall, the Twin Center in the Mâarif neighborhood, or Anfa Place, and Sindibad Park for a fun outing. The Papers Club cultural café also hosts family-friendly activities.

Should you rent a car in Casablanca as a family?

Not necessarily to explore the city itself: the four-line tram network provides good coverage of the main tourist sites, and an official taxi (small red taxi) or a ride-hailing service can easily fill in the gaps. A car comes in handy if you’re planning day trips—to Rabat (1 hour and 10 minutes by car), El Jadida (1 hour and 15 minutes), or the beaches of Tamaris and Dar Bouazza (40 minutes). You can rent a car directly from Mohammed V Airport.
